Argument Essay Homework Project:

Pick a topic you are passionate about.

Example: Recently, there was a black bear hunt in New Jersey. I am strongly against this hunt from happening. I saw it on the news and I think it is the wrong thing to do. There are two sides to this argument. Some people think the bears should be killed because there are too many in the area, others think that they should be protected. I am going to find some articles about this and develop an argument essay to convince you that it is the wrong thing to do.

Step1: Choose a topic.

Step 2: Research for articles or books on this topic (Pick two or three strong articles)

Step 3: Read your articles and take notes (use all your strategies, lists, box and bullets, fact/opinion, Quote…I think,)

Step 4: Summarize your articles

Step 5: Create an outline for your essay

Step 6: Craft your introduction (Must include a strong thesis statement, reasons, opposite point of view)

Step 7: Craft your “reasons paragraphs” Remember, you MUST use information from the articles, quote correctly.

Step 8: Draft your opposing point of view paragraph. State the opposite opinion, but make sure you state your position.

Step 9: Draft a conclusion. Restate thesis, reasons, opposition and bring it to the next level.

Step 10: Revise and Edit

Step 11: Publish. You may type your final version and submit on the computer.

Step 12: Create a poster or display on your topic.

Step 13: Present to class.
